2.5 million extra voters to vote for upcoming LS Poll

In Kerala the Lok Sabha Election 2014 willbe held on 10 April in which it is estimated that about 2.5 million more voters will be voting in this LS election than previous time.Chief electoral officer Nalini Netto said that while the total size of the electorate during the 2009 general elections in the state was 2,17,99,979, for the 2014 poll, it has risen to 2,42,51,942.

This time round, there are 269 candidates – 242 men candidates and 27 women – in fray for the 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state, she said.This time, the total number of young voters from age 18 to 19 years is 5,56,702 which includes 3,10,366 men and 2,46,336 women.

In the 2009 poll, there were 20,476 polling stations and 11,759 polling locations while this time round there are 21,424 stations and 11,969 locations.Polling in Kerala on April 10 would be held via 30,795 ballot units which will be controlled by 24,601 control units.
