Campaign by Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad on Gadgil Report
The Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad will be holding out again the campaign in order to support the conservation of the western ghats. Many among the states are against it and some supports it.
The revived campaign will see parishad volunteers visiting one lakh households on June 5, the World Environment Day, in a bid to make people aware of the importance of the protection of Western Ghats and the relevance of the Gadgil committee report.
“It is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the Western Ghats, which is on the verge of a disaster,” parishad general secretary Sreenivasan V V told a news conference here on Saturday. “If we follow the present pattern of development, we cannot protect them as it is based on exploitation of nature.”
“Though the Gadgil recommendations are against the capitalist tendencies and it has a democratic approach at the level of implementation, we missed the chance for a public debate on its contents or benefits due to the emotional political campaign,” parishad president N K Sasidharan Pillai said.
