No Officials to supervise Kerala Railway projects
The Railway Projects in Kerala are running without chief administrative officer and Chief Engineer’s because of this, the contractors slow down on works, citing delayed payment of bills.
The Railway Board is yet to fill the post of the Chief Administrative Officer even a month after it became vacant. The Chief Administrative Officer is in charge of the projects related to the railway in Kerala. One of the two Chief Engineers’ posts is also vacant.
A nine-kilometre stretch between Chengannur and Thiruvalla as well as the 13 kilometres between Kuruppanthara and Piravam Road are supposed to be commissioned this year but the construction of bridges on these sections are yet to be taken up. If the project was delayed earlier for want of sand or the delay in releasing funds, the works are now in a limbo as there are no officials to supervise it. The railway had made sand available from its own land for the work.
Authorities in Chennai are trying depute an official to be included in the panel. In fact, outstation officers are not very excited about a posting in Kerala. The Railway Board had drawn up a panel of candidates for the appointment of the Chief Administrative Officer for Kerala, there was no follow-up on it.
