Kerala History to Study by Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram

The Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram’s ‘core committee’ meeting held at the Samskrithi Bhavan here has decided to undertake a comprehensive study on Kerala history based on its river valley civilisation.

To start with, the Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram will take up the study of three major rivers, Pampa, Periyar and Bharathapuzha and successively other rivers also.This study, connecting the past and the future based on actual data obtained through in-depth study and research would give a clear perception of Kerala’s future in the coming ages.

This comprehensive study would give sufficient inputs to draw a developmental framework and the future course of the state.The Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram has decided to take up the topic ‘Kerala Heritage and Pampa River’, the cradle of Travancore cultural heritage and the lifeline of South Kerala.

It would give impetus to take up the proposed study on other rivers seriously in the coming years.In a release issued here, Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram said that a recent trend Kerala had been witnessing was covert and overt attempts and agitations to thwart the unique cultural identity of Kerala not only by organised religious groups but also by the people at the helm of affairs.

This study will go in detail to the tribal, ritualistic, cultural, environmental, economical, demographic and administrative aspects of the people who had inhabited this area and also the structural changes which occurred during the evolution of these aspects, during the course of time, till date.

The proposed study will be undertaken at the micro-level to enable the people to interpret how the evolutionary changes influenced the identity of the present day society of Kerala.
