Monsoon Death Toll Rises to 116 in State

A total of 116 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state since the onset of the monsoon season with four deaths being reported on Wednesday.

Out of the deaths, one each were reported from Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Palakkad and Kannur. In Thiruvananthapuram, a 60-year-old man was killed when a huge banyan tree fell over a shop.A total loss of Rs 3.84 crore was reported from various parts of the state due to damage to crops spread over an area of 1155 hectares. Eight houses were destroyed and 190 houses were damaged in the heavy rain.The total loss is estimated at Rs 16.27 lakh. 

According to disaster management officials, a total of 9311 people are lodged in 139 relief camps across the state.
