4-day Kerala festival for cultural connect
A colourful mix of Kerala and Maharashtra’s cultures will open on Thursday as part of a four-day festival organised by the Kerala government and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academi in Pimpri Chinchwad to mark the 60th anniversary of Kerala formation day.
A typical village from Kerala will be recreated with live cultural display around it to experience the flavour and the ambience of the state. Marathi cultural performances and a food festival are expected to be major draws. Kerala’s handloom and handicraft department will display and sell items.
Kerala Folklore Academi, Kerala Handicraft and handloom development corporation, Kerala Tourism Department, Kerala State Chalachitra Academi, Kerala Lalithakala Academi, Kerala State Chalachitra Academi and Kerala Sahitya Academi and participating. The festival will be held in association with various Malayalee organizations in Pune and its suburbs.
Soorya Krishna Murthy’s multimedia drama “Deergha Chathuram” will be staged at Ankushrao Landge Auditorium in Bhosari as a Kelikottu of Kerala Festival on Thursday.
From Friday to Sunday, cultural programmes will be staged at Saraswati Vishwa Vidyalaya, Talawade Road, Nigdi. The programmes include “Katha Prasangam-story telling with musical support, Padayani — a traditional folk dance and a ritual art, ceremonial dance involving masks, folk songs, and magic shows.
A procession on Friday displaying select art forms of Kerala, a tableau of Maharashtrian culture with the traditional drums of Kerala in accompaniment and over 300 artistes has been planned.
