6 Spot Admission in CMC Cochin

The Cochin Medical College authorities (CMC), already facing allegations regarding admission to MBBS course, have now sparked off a fresh controversy by inviting applications for spot admission to six vacant seats for MBBS under the management quota.
Volunteers of a movement demanding government takeover of the college alleged that this move was meant to facilitate those who ‘booked’ seats in advance.
“We suspect this to be an attempt of the college management to sell NRI seats which was prevented by the Admission Supervisory Committee (ASC). The ASC is now monitoring admission under NRI quota. The latest notice inviting applications for filling six seats in management quota is just to facilitate those who missed their ‘sure seats’ in NRI quota,” alleged N K Sanil Kumar, a Kochi-based doctor.
“Admission to management quota is conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE) as no college management is entitled to conduct admission at own level,” he pointed out. However, according to CEE B S Mavoji, there is nothing wrong about CMC inviting application for filling vacant seats after completing admission. “As per the conditions in the pact between the government and managements of self-financing medical colleges, admission to management quota can be conducted once the government allotment is over,” he said. The Admission Supervisory Committee also shared the same view.
