Kerala Electricity Board Condition getting Worst

KSEB poorly managed and hit by resources is unable to give new connections since the basic materials like wire, meters and electric posts are in short supply; there is no money or paper even to print monthly/bimonthly bills; and money stops going into the EPF account for the last six months.

As on January 31 last, as many as 43,494 connection requests are pending; a shockingly high number. The target was 4 lakh connections during 2012-13 fiscal. “Such a deficit is unheard of in the history of the Board. Truth is, the Board does not have the money to purchase materials like wire and meters. Consequently, applications for connections are piling up,” a top KSEB source said.

The Board is so short of funds that it is unable to meet the demands of at least 40 section offices for paper to print monthly electricity bills. “Consumers served by these section offices, say for instance Tirur, have stopped receiving electricity bills. The Board is already broken, and this fall in assured revenue will crush it,” the source said.
