The Kerala State Electricity Board seems to have taken a right step when it decided to forgo the half-an-hour cyclic load shedding in the early morning hours and introduced one hour load shedding from 9am to 5pm. The decision has helped the board save more than 1 million units a day.
According to KSEB officials, the board was saving around 1.75mu of power every day through load shedding, despite rising power demands. While the board used to save minimum 2mu of power through cyclic load shedding in the early morning hours and peak time in the evening, the savings had come down substantially in the post school season. Moreover, the consumption levels started showing a meteoric increase during daytime as the number of people spending time at homes during daytime increased manifold due to the summer vacation.
For the second time in the last one month, BSES thermal power unit in Ernakulam was closed down for want of Naphta fuel. According to sources, the unit has run out of Naphta and stopped power production on Sunday.
