Leakage in Malankara irrigation dam

Leaks have been detected in the Malankara irrigation dam near Thodupuzha, Kerala Dam Safety Authority chairman Justice C N Ramachandran Nair said on Monday. The leaks were found at three places, including inspection Gallery and shutters of the dam.
He described the situation to be serious and expressed doubt over shortcomings during the construction of the dam. In the beginning there were flaws in the construction of the dam, he said. He said the authority had received complaints from farmers over non- availability of water for irrigation.
