Pre Monsoon Rains in Kerala Showing Good Sign of Monsoon Arrival
29 May 2013
Kochi
Kozhikode, Kochi and Allapuzha in Kerala, Mangalore in Karnataka and Amini in Lakshadweep have all received showers for the last five days. Further meteorological analysis by Skymet Weather suggests that a cyclonic circulation, formed in the south Arabian Sea and moving in a northwest direction, has influenced the onset of monsoon here
Meanwhile, the low pressure area in north Bay of Bengal has now intensified into a depression. This depression, which will continue to move northwestwards, towards Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal, will give moderate to heavy rainfall over Kolkata and the entire Gangetic West Bengal. The heavy rainfall may be accompanied by strong winds, up to 70kmph, which could uproot trees and pose damage to crops.
Below normal temperatures, thunder development and light showers are expected at coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
