Early Arrival on Monsoon in Kerala

The monsoon could hit Kerala by Sunday, a day before the Met department’s predicted date of June 3, with conditions becoming favorable for its advance into parts of south Arabian sea, Maldives, the Comorin areas and some more parts of Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
Senior officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said here on Thursday that a low pressure system that had formed over the Bay of Bengal had hastened the formation of rain-clouds, which are expected to come to Kerala by June 2.
“A number of factors determine the advance of the monsoon, including wind-speed and direction, and prevailing temperatures over north-west India. The monsoon is currently still in the Bay of Bengal, but we are expecting it to hit Kerala over the next 48 to 72 hours,” an IMD official said on Thursday.
