Tamil Nadu and Karnataka next target of Monsoon
2 June 2013
New Delhi
After hitting Kerala, the monsoon is expected to advance to parts of Tamil Nadu and drought-hit states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh over the next two days. Arriving in Kerala two days ahead of schedule, the monsoon has boosted farming prospects and raised hopes in the cotton and sugar growing belt.
Light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers at one or two places in eastern Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours led to day temperatures falling in the Gorakhpur and Bareilly divisions.
Meanwhile, onset of monsoon brought respite from the heat for the north Indians as the mercury continued its slow descent in Delhi, which registered a maximum of 38 degrees Celsius today – two degrees below normal and lower than the 40.6 degrees recorded yesterday.
