Kerala Fisherman to Stay Alert

Kerala Fishermen have been asked to stay back as the sea is expected to be rough with strong winds blowing at speeds touching 50-60 kilometres per hour along the coast. As Heavy rain lashed the state on Sunday with the southwest monsoon flexing its muscles, and the coastal regions, especially, will be taking some heavy battering in the days ahead, according to the Met Department.
There is also the likelihood of ‘isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall’ in the state and over the Lakshadweep Islands. “Squally weather with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is likely along the Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep area during the next 24 hours. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough. Local cautionary signal number 3 (storm warning) is kept hoisted in all ports of Kerala and Minicoy port.
“Fishermen are advised not to venture into open sea,” the Met Department said in a weather report. On Sunday, Kodungallur in Thrissur district topped the rainfall list with 8 cm followed by Enamackel- also in Thrissur – Ponnani (Malappuram) and Vaikom (Kottayam) receiving seven cm each. Cherthala in Alappuzha district and Kudulu in Kasaragod received five centimetres each.
