Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s chief adviser E. Sreedharan says both Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode monorails first phase will be completed in three years. DMRC and Kerala Mono Rail Corporation officials signed the agreement on the projects here on Wednesday.
DMRC will be the general consultant of KMRC. Sreedharan said paper works had already started on the pre-qualification bidding which is through global tendering.
“Thirty-five per cent of the project cost would be government’s stake. We have demanded 20 per cent grant from the central government. Also, we are hoping that outside agencies like Japan International Corporation Agency would give long-term cheap loans, where they would get the maximum weightage,” he said.
“The transportation capacity in a single monorail will be 15,000 per hour. Staff recruitment has already started,” he added.Thiruvananthapuram monorail is slated to be between Technocity and Karamana covering a length of 22.5 km and is expected to cost Rs 3,950 crore. While this will have 19 stations, 15 stations are earmarked for Kozhikode monorail between Medical College and Meenchantha at a cost of Rs 1,991 crore.
