The tourism department of the Kerala government has advised visitors to Kerala against travelling to Munnar and other hilly terrains of Idukki district for the next few days in view of the potential risk of roadblocks following heavy rains in the region.
The department is continuously monitoring the weather and travel conditions in the area and will issue regular updates. Tourists are advised to contact the nearest tourism information centre before embarking on any essential travel to hill stations in Idukki district.
For any assistance and information call the 24-hour emergency response number: 1800-425-4747.
The state government has sought the army’s help for relief operations after heavy rain and landslips hit the Idukki district. At least 11 persons have been killed in natural calamities in the district in the last two days.
