Zero Landless Project to Launched by Sonia Gandhi on Monday

Being the first major populist programme to be kicked off ahead of the coming Lok Sabha elections, the government is planning to spend money generously from the state exchequer for the zero landless programme that will be launched by Sonia Gandhi here on Monday.
The conduct of the programme — titled Zero Landless (Citizen) Kerala 2015 — alone has been budgeted at Rs 1.5 crore, which will cover the setting up of infrastructure, bringing the beneficiaries from other districts and felicitating them as also the media publicity for the function.
In a meeting to review the arrangements for the function that was held on Monday, the government had accorded necessary administrative sanction for releasing the funds. Though the public works department was originally considered for erecting the shamiana at the central stadium — the venue of the programme — it was later decided to seek the services of private groups, seemingly pessimistic about the ability of its own departments in the conduct of the programme.
A well-arranged seating capacity has been planned for the 18,000-plus beneficiaries (9,300 families) who will receive the title deeds from six districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam.
