CIAL to Have Art Gallery by Lalithakala Akademi

Managing director of the Cochin International Airport Ltd(CIAL), V J Kurian, announced on Monday the opening of a new art gallery promoted by the Lalithakala Akademi.
The official inauguration of the art gallery is proposed to be held on November 3 by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation K C Venugopal.According to Kurian more than commercial interest, the purpose behind the move is to promote budding artists as well as veterans.
The art gallery will be functioning in a 2,000-sq ft air-conditioned hall for 24 hours daily and it would be the first of its kind in India at an airport.More than 30 paintings are proposed to be exhibited on the inauguration day, all from the award winners of the two competitions held in Thrissur and Thekkady by the Akademi recently.
President of the academy, K A Francis, said that the paintings will be sold between `30,000 and `40,000 as inaugural discounts.The institutions buying more than one painting will get more discounts.
A section would be devoted for the works done by native painters with traditional Kerala backdrop, which could be presented to their friends and well-wishers as gifts either in Gulf or in other countries, said Francis.
Printed copies of the famous paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and K C S Panicker would also be displayed in the hall for `500.
