1.5 kg of gold worth Rs 48 lakh was seized from a 28 year old man who belongs to Kannur in Kerala by Revenue Intelligence and customs sleuths. This is the second gold seizure in 24 hours here, indicating that gold smugglers might have opted for this airport after a series of gold hauls in Kerala, Hyderabad and Chennai.
The passenger has been identified as Zachariah from Koothuparambu, Kannur, who arrived here at 3.20 am on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah. He was working at a departmental store in Sharjah and told officials that this was a personal trip.
Customs officials at the city airport had detained another man identified as Nishad from Palakkad at the airport Thursday morning with 1.42 kg of gold concealed in his luggage. He had also arrived from Sharjah in the same flight.
