P.K. Abdu Rabb Faces Criticism For Transferring Headmistress
Kerala State Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb is facing strong opposition for transferring the headmistress of the government school for criticizing the minister in her vote of thanks speech for coming late to a function organised at Cotton Hill Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram on June 16.
The headmistress K.K. Urmila Devi, who faced the wrath of the minister, approached the Kerala Administrative Tribunal against the government order to transfer her. Devi told media that she never insulted the minister who came three hours late for the function.
“I only said that if the organisers were aware about the late arrival of the minister, they could have scheduled the meeting accordingly,” said Urmila Devi. The video of her speech at the function which was revealed to the media later stood proof to her claim. Administrative Tribunal which considered her petition on Thursday postponed it for hearing on Friday. But the Tribunal maintained that the order could not be stayed as another teacher had assumed charge as headmistress on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy supported the minister and said that issue was blown out of proportion by the opposition and the action against the headmistress was taken after getting probe report. “The headmistress can go for appeal,” said Chandy in Assembly on Thursday.
