Members of the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) walked out of the Assembly on Monday in protest against the Speaker’s decision to deny leave of the House for an adjournment motion.Referring to Communist Party of India (Marxist) legislator E.P. Jayarajan’s notice for an adjournment motion on the alleged police bid to frame CPI(M) Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan in the murder of Indian Union Muslim League activist Abdul Shukkor, Speaker G. Karthikeyan said the Assembly could not discuss an issue that was sub judice as it would have direct or indirect bearing on the case.
Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan said the Opposition had never intended to go into the merit of the case, but it wanted to bring before the notice of the Assembly how Mr. Jayarajan, a former MLA, was framed by the police in the case and was subsequently arrested and imprisoned. This was a serious issue, he said.
