A group of students Eldho Paul, K A Mohammed Yarshi, Maneesh Sam Thambi, Vishnu Prasad, N S Vishal and Sujith Suresh Babu of Mar Baselios Institute of Technology and Science (MBITS) in Thrissur district have designed a prototype of an air-powered motorcycle that does not require petrol or diesel to operate.
According to the students, they have managed to convert a 97.2 cc four-stroke petrol engine to an air engine with some modifications of cam. The engine is named after Zephyrus, God of the West Wind in Greek mythology.
“Cars, using compressed air as fuel, have been developed in countries like France. In India, some multinational companies are involved in research on air-powered cars. But, as of our knowledge, no agency is undergoing research on air-driven motorcycles,” said Sujith Suresh Babu.
