Bus Accident in Panikkarkadavu in Kollam

A private bus lost control and crashed into a roadside coconut palm injuring 35 persons travelling in it.The accident occurred at Panikkarkadavu near Karunagapally at about 4 p.m. on Sunday. In the impact of the crash the palm snapped and fell over the bus.
One woman identified as Kamalamma, 52, from Alappad who was critically injured has been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. At least 20 others injured are under treatment at the Karunagapally taluk hospital. The rest were discharged after first aid.
The bus was plying on the Azheekkal-Karunagapally route. It was after crossing the Panikkarkadavu bridge that the driver lost control of the bus. At the time of the accident the bus was packed with passengers.
Hearing the cries of those in the bus, residents of the area rushed to the scene of the accident to rescue those inside the bus. Soon personnel from the Fire and Rescue Service joined them. All those injured were quickly transported to the hospital in vehicles that came that way. The Karunagapally police have registered a case.
