Central Team to Meet Kerala CM Regarding Monsoon Damages in State

The seven-member team of senior Central Government officials currently touring Kerala to assess the monsoon damage will meet Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at Thriruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
The team, headed by V. Vumlunmang, joint secretary in the Home Ministry, arrived here on Saturday. After taking stock of the damage with senior State government officials this morning, the team left for different districts to get a hands-on account of the damage caused by the heavy rains. They are expected to arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday afternoon.
In seven weeks of monsoon fury, 131 lives were lost across the State. About 10,000 houses in 900 villages were damaged. There has also been heavy crop loss, uprooting of fruit trees and destruction of public infrastructure such as roads.
