Keral Govt. Launches fish fast food chain
(KSCADC) Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation has has opened a chain across the state to sell fishery products with added value, aiming at broadening it nation-wide in the long run, if the project is successful. The Company is fully owned by Kerala Goverment
The fast food network called Fish Maid will operate under the Public Private Partnership model, and will offer ready-to-eat fish in Kochi as from Monday 23 February.
The broad variety of available products includes tuna burger, salmon sandwich, fish spring roll, tuna stuffed egg, French omelette with tuna, tuna pasta salad, salmon green salad, shrimp cream soup, among other delicacies.
Kerala minister of Fisheries, Ports and Excise, Shri K. Babu, explained, “Through this novel initiative, the state government plans to empower women in the coastal areas and improve their livelihood by providing them best-in-class training to produce high-end fish products while complying with quality control mechanisms.”
For the technological support in product preserving and packaging, KSCADC has made an agreement with the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT),Manoramaonline informed.
The products are currently prepared at KSCADC’s common facility centre at Sakthikulangara, Kollam. The Corporation plans to open two more production units at Azhikode (Thrissur) and Azhikkal (Kannur).
In reference to the project, KSCADC’s Managing Director Dr K Ampady, pointed out, “Fish Maid is the result of the KSCADC’s relentless efforts to build a more effective and competitive practice to market our fish products while minimizing wastage. The aim is to catch up with the changing market trends.”
The market would eventually be expanded depending on the customer response, he added.
