ICCI Meeting Held in Kochi

The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised an interactive session with Rajesh Agrawal, Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Railway at Indian Chamber Hall, Mattanchery.
Rajesh Agrawal stressed on the need for containerisation and bulk cargo through Railways from Kochi which was still a non-starter. The DRM assured to consider opening of Railway Reservation Booking Counter at Mattanchery on the premises of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Divisional Railway Manager said the long pending issue for a railway gate at Mattanchery Halt will be solved within 40 days by replacing the swing gates with lifting barrier. The railway line between Ernakulam and Cochin Harbour Terminus was facing problem of electrification due to objections from the Navy, he said adding that the new Railway Bridge at Venduruthy would soon become operational.
A A Abdul Azeez, president, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that container service from Vallarpadam to Cochin Port can be routed through Tailways instead of road transport or Ro Ro sevice and can save the cost by half.
