Kerala Electricity Board takes away loadshedding
KSEB Kerala State Electricity Board will be now purchasing 360 MW power as it has stopped the loadshedding and will be buying from Rajiv Gandhi Combined Cycle Power Project (RGCCPP), Kayamkulam.
The KSEB had announced loadshedding up to May 31 as the Sabarigiri hydel project was shut down for repairs, resulting in a shortage of 340 MW. But the power restrictions had proved futile in the face of the summer heat which, in turn, led to an increase in power consumption.
Also, there was a demand from various quarters to avoid loadshedding on Monday evening so that the swearing-in ceremony of the NDA Government could be viewed live on TV.
But, buying power from RGCCPP will cost the KSEB heavily. The per-unit price of power from the station at the moment is around Rs 13.
