The Kerala High Court on Monday directed the state government to file a statement on the progress of the investigation being conducted by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) into various allegations levelled against the Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan and his son V A Arun Kumar by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, when he was the Opposition Leader.
The Bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice K Vinod Chandran issued the directive on a petition filed by T Abdul Haq, of Kottakkal, Malappuram, challenging the inaction on the part of the Vigilance Department in completing the probe.
The government pleader informed the court that the Vigilance had already started probe into the allegations, but not yet completed. Hence, the court ordered to file details of the progress made in the probe.
The court asked the state to file the statement before the next date of hearing and posted the case after Onam vacation. The petitioner alleged that no inquiry was conducted despite the fact that the present Chief Minister was the complainant.
He pointed out that Achuthanandan, who is the Leader of the Opposition, was trying to sabotage the inquiry with the intention of protecting them from prosecution. He said that crime is yet to be registered.
