The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government has suffered a major setback with the Kerala High Court ordering removal of Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan’s name from the list of accused in the sensational ‘land assignment case’ and mounting a scathing criticism of the government.
The Court however, ordered continuation of the investigation against former Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran, Mr. Achuthanandan’s personal assistant A. Suresh, Mr. Achuthanandan’s distant relative Soman and the then Kasaragod district collector Krishnan Kutty, also named in the FIR.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan have said the government would go in appeal against the Single Bench decision. Giving his instant reaction, Mr. Chandy said the government had never pursued the case with any political motive. “The law will take its course,” Mr. Chandy said. Mr. Radhakrishnan said the government would decide its future course of action after studying the judgment.
