Kerala High rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Shaji Purushothaman, wanted by Chennai police in the Mercedes hit-and-run case in which a boy was killed.
Director General of Prosecutions (DGP) T Asaf Ali had opposed the bail plea stating that the offence had taken place outside the state and the petitioner was not a resident of Kerala.
The case against Shaji is that on May 23 he drove the Mercedes car in a rash and negligent manner under the influence of alcohol and ran over three children sleeping on the pavement in Chennai.
According to the petitioner, the Kerala High Court had the jurisdiction to pass orders on his bail plea as he hails from Pattathanam in Kollam district.
