Kerala State Asks for Financial Aid for Rain Disasters in the State

Kerala State faced a severe rainfall with the starting of this summer which have resulted in various loses to the state in agricultural field and others for which Kerala has sought an assistance of Rs 110 crore from the Centre.

Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash met Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran on Thursday and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Though the state would seek maximum assistance from the Centre, the State Government would provide sufficient funds for all relief measures.An agriculture loss in the rains is estimated to be Rs 20 crore. About 280 houses were destroyed, 1200 suffered heavy damage and 4400 houses were partially damaged, the minister said.

With the Met Department warning of heavy rains in the state, he said that all Revenue officials in the state have been instructed to be vigilant.
