The state is set to introduce a travel cab system to ensure the security of women. As part of the Gender Park initiative, taxis will be introduced with the support of vehicle manufacturers and service providers.
The project ’24×7 Taxi Service for Women’ is planned in such a way that the cabs will be exclusively managed by trained women drivers. A round-the-clock control room will also be set up to regularly monitor the operations of the cab.
Service providers will be finalized based on their mechanism to ensure maximum safety such as instruments and systems, possible association with police, transport or other departments and infrastructure to manage fleet operations, said the official.
Youngsters and senior citizens have welcomed the idea. “It would be a big help for students, who reach Kozhikode railway station during odd hours as it is not safe to take an autorickshaw or taxi,” said J Seena, of Pondicherry University.
