Kerala to be Hunger Free Soon

Kerala will be soon a Hunger Free State said CM Oomen Chandy inaugrating the ‘Hunger-free City’ project on Tuesday at the Medical College Hospital. Under the project, about 100 inmates of Central prison will prepare meals for more than 2000 people at the newly- equipped kitchen on a daily basis. The meal packets titled ‘Samthripthi’ will be distributed by the jail authorities.
‘’At present, the project functions at Kozhikode, Kollam and Malappuram districts. The mission is planning to extend the scheme to old age homes and other institutions with the help of NSS and SPCA,’’ said Social Welfare and Panchayat Minister M K Muneer.
As of now, the authorities have decided to distribute the meals packets to the patients of Medical College Hospital, Super-speciality block and SAT Hospital, free of cost. About 10 beneficiary children of ‘Thalolam scheme’ that provides free cancer treatment, were given gifts by the Health Minister V S Sivakumar on the occasion.
