A longstanding demand of thousands of CBSE students and their parents in the State will be fulfilled shortly with the Central Board of Secondary Education about to set up its ninth regional centre in Thiruvananthapuram in a couple of months.

A two-storied building with a built-up space of 13,000 sq ft in the heart of the capital city has been identified for the purpose. Indira Rajan, State general secretary, Kerala CBSE School Managements Association, told The Hindu that the regional centre will be inaugurated by this November.

The building was inspected by CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi along with Ms. Rajan when he was in the city earlier this month. Close on the heels of the chairman’s visit, a three-member team from Delhi inspected the building and expressed satisfaction about the facilities available. The proposal also has the active backing of the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Shashi Tharoor.

CBSE nod to the proposal for a regional centre in the State is the result of a sustained campaign by the Association under Ms. Rajan in bringing to the notice of authorities the practical difficulties faced by students and parents from the State. “They were being forced to visit Chennai even for minor issues like migration certificate or to get date of birth or transfer certificate corrected,” Ms. Rajan said.
