Kerala Tops in Criminal Rate list of the Country

After being the most literate state in the country, Kerala is now named as the state which has recorded the highest rate of crimes under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). At 455.8 per lakh population, the crime figure recorded in Kerala is over double of the national average. Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu follow Kerala in the crime rate list.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau’s Crime in India 2012 report, Nagaland has the lowest crime rate, just a tenth of that recorded in Kerala. Lakshwadeep, and Daman and Diu share the bottom part of the list with Nagaland.
A look at the chart citing rate of IPC crime reveals that Kochi is the city with the highest rate of total cognisable crimes in the country – 817.9 incidents of IPC crimes for every lakh population, followed by Indore (762.6) and Gwalior (686.1).
Mallapuram and Dhanbad are at the bottom of the list with 123.1 and 135 incidents of IPC crimes for every lakh population respectively.
