Kerala Tourism will launch two major campaigns this year—the Middle East Campaign and the Backwater Tourism Campaign. While the former campaign will target travellers from the Middle East, promoting Kerala’s pre-eminent position as an Ayurvedic destination, the latter will showcase the potential of the backwaters of the state as a leisure destination.
This was informed by S Harikishore IAS, Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, at a business meet in Gurgaon, NCR. The state’s Seaplane Project will be aligned with the Backwater Tourism Campaign to attract domestic and international tourists, he said.
Harikishore said that the number of domestic tourists to Kerala had crossed one crore last year, registering a growth of eight per cent over 2011. In order to build on this development, Kerala Tourism has charted out 22 business meets, and participation in 22 travel fairs this financial year (2013-14).
While ten Tier-II and III cities will be covered in the first phase between now and October, metros and Tier-I cities will be covered in the second phase starting from January 2014, the Director said. The Gurgaon business meet was the first of the 22.
