Kerala Water Authority Under Radar of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau
Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau is on the raids in Kerala State at various govt departments of the state of which there seems to be some flouting of tender norms by Kerala Water Authority. The agency physically verified the sites where the work was carried out on SA Road. According to vigilance DSP A D Balasubramaniyam, the raid was conducted at the KWA office following a tip off regarding irregularities while awarding the work.
Along with the work on shifting a major pipeline on the road, the water authority “simultaneously executed a minor work between Puthenpalam Junction and Vytilla without following tender procedures”. Vigilance officials said that while the major work, which was done to facilitate the construction of Kochi Metro, was awarded by the superintending engineer, there “was no agreement or work order for executing the minor work”.
After searching the KWA office, the vigilance to its surprise found that agency had invited tenders for executing the minor work with May 21 as the last date for submitting the tender. On checking the records, it was found that no one had participated in the tender. This, according to vigilance officials, would help KWA award the work to the sub-contractor as nomination work. “If someone had participated in the tender, we don’t know how KWA would have paid both the contractors,” the official said.
