Kochi may have Malaysia Airlines Soon

Five Malaysia Airlines officials have landed to hold discussions with the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) authorities for starting services from here.The team on Tuesday inspected the facilities at the airport and will hold discussions with airport officials, including director A.C.K. Nair on Thursday on facilities they would want.
The airline is keen on operating services not only to Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur but also to European destinations and to cities in the US through Kuala Lumpur. The first service is expected by September.
Air Asia is currently operating daily service to Kuala Lumpur and it has plans increase flight frequency and become a partner in the maintenance hangar at the airport managed by the subsidiary CIASL.
Royal Jordanian airlines too is learnt to have evinced interest in starting services to Kochi airport and also partnering in the hangar.
Air Asia is also tying up with the Tata group to launch Air Asia India service from Kerala Day on November 1 from the airport here.
