Stung by criticism from various quarters over the pathetic drainage facility at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has launched corrective measures. The poor drainage system at the stadium had hampered play during the Duleep Trophy final and North and South Zone were declared joint winners on Monday.

On Tuesday, representatives of a Malaysia-based company, entrusted with improving the drainage facility, reached the city. Repair works have been launched and company officials have assured to restore the ground in 15 days. The company will have to stick to the deadline as the One-Day International between India and West Indies, slated for November 21, is less than a month away. The work is being undertaken by the supervisor of the Malaysian company. The main technical expert and the owner of the company are expected to arrive on Wednesday.

Waterlogging on the western side of the stadium has been the main area of concern. According to KCA officials, hard soil at the spot has prevented water from seeping.
