The government had given in-principle nod for the construction of flats by Housing Department with the support of financial institutions and using beneficiary share for the low income groups in the state. The flats will be constructed in land owned by the local bodies and this was announced in the state budget for the year 2012-13.
A proposal was submitted by the Kerala State Housing Board (KSHB) for the launch of ‘Sanketham’ housing construction project to the government. The government had asked the KSHB to revise the project and subsequently, the KSHB made some changes and resubmitted it. As per the revised project, when the local bodies allot the land for the construction, the cost of construction of a 400 sq ft flat comes to around Rs five lakh.
The KSHB had requested the government to provide sanction to the changes made in the project for getting the land allotted and preparing the project report to be submitted to the government.
