Makkaparambu subway gets Rs 20 Lakhs project to start again soon

In a meeting chaired by Union minister of state for consumer affairs, food and public distribution K V Thomas , Kochi Corporation has agreed to sanction rs 20 Lakh for Makkaparambu subway project . The construction of subway, which began in 2001, requires Rs 40 lakh. Water-logging and leakage have plagued the project, leading to public protests. The minister also promised to raise the remaining Rs 20 lakh from other sources.
Due to leakage and water-logging the project was stopped , we will soon be starting the project again say Thomas. The Union minister has also asked railways to submit the plan for Thirunettoor railway over-bridge (ROB) for which the minister would provide Rs 3 crore from his fund and raise Rs 4 crore from public sector undertakings.
Thiruvananthapuram Railway Divisional manager Rajesh Agrawal said the railway was planning to operate mainline electrical multiples units (Memu) services from the old railway station after the renovation. “Later, we also plan to develop it as a hub for trains starting and terminating at Ernakulam,” he said.
