Mahatma Gandhi University exam wing is in great trouble since the exit of 85 personnel, who were appointed on a temporary basis six months ago, the examination section has plunged into a crisis. With the term of another 50 members of the staff ending on August 31, the situation could take a turn for the worse and delay publication of results by several weeks.

Even though the varsity rules permit the authorities to extend the tenure of the temporary staff by another six months, there has been no concrete effort to avert the crisis. The University could also appoint people figuring in the rank list published by the Directorate of Employment and Training on a temporary basis to resolve the deadlock.

Senior varsity officials admitted that the examination wing has been severely hit owing to the acute shortage of experienced staff to carry out work related to the compilation and publication of results. The delay on the part of the Kerala Public Service Commission to fill up the vacant positions in the varsity has also added to the existing woes.

The varsity had to withdraw the results of the second semester examinations under the choice-based credit and semester scheme after it was found that the total 80 credit points for the entire course period was allotted by the third semester itself.
