The south-west monsoon was in full fury in the central parts of the state, especially Kottayam and Idukki on Monday. At Munnar, the new bridge under construction has been submerged forcing vehicles to take the old bridge.

In Kottayam, the downpour continued forcing the authorities to declare holiday for all educational institutions, except professional colleges, in Changanassery, Kottayam and Vaikkom taluks on Tuesday. The same is the case in Tiruvalla taluk in Pathanamthitta district.

There was some relief in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. In Alappuzha, the district collector declared a holiday on Tuesday for those schools where relief camps are functioning. Palakkad received very heavy rainfall and several areas were inundated. All educational institutions, except professional ones, will have a holiday on Tuesday.
