An NCC cadet died after being accidentally shot at during a shooting practice at the army barracks at West Hill in Kozhikode.

The deceased has been identified as Dhanush Krishna of St Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram in Kollam.

The NCC has ordered an internal probe into the incident.

This is not the first time such an accident has occurred in the state.

Last November, another cadet M. Anas had died after being accidentally hit by a bullet during a firing practice at an NCC camp in Kannur in the second week of September. Anas succumbed to the injury at the Bangalore Military Hospital where he was taken for treatment by the state government.

A bullet fired by another cadet hit the ground, rebounded and hit Anas, an undergraduate student of a local college.

The state government had adopted 19-year-old Anas following the firing.
