Kerala CM Oommen Chandy inaugurating the newly-constructed office building of Goshree Islands Development Authority (Gida) and the inland water transport terminal said that the state govt have given a nod for the bridges connecting Goshree Islands.

“The 160-crore project will connect Moolampilly-Pizhala, Valiya Kadamakkudy-Chathanad, Pizhala-Valiya Kadamakkudy and Pizhala-Cheriya Kadamakkudy islands and will be beneficial for the residents. The work on Moolampilly-Pizhala and Valiya Kadamakkudy-Chathanad bridges will start first,” the chief minister said.

The 6,000 sq ft new office building of Gida and inland water transport terminal was constructed at an expense of Rs 5 crore. Gida has been functioning from a rented building since its formation in 1994. Though the building was planned to be completed in 12 months, authorities said it was finished before deadline.

Meanwhile, ports and fisheries minister K Babu has given Gida permission to build a passenger-cum-tourist boat connecting Goshree Islands. The 60-seater boat will be constructed at a cost of Rs1.5 crore.
