Noted writer Ambalapuzha Ramavarma Passes Away

Noted writer and a renowned critic of classical art forms, Ambalapuzha Ramavarma, 86, passed away at a private hospital here at 1.30 pm on Sunday.He had been undergoing treatment for old-age related illnesses for the last few days.Born on December 10, 1926, Ramavarma got an opportunity to watch classical art performances of famous artists at a young age.
A major part of his writings is about kathakali. With Malayalam and Sanskrit as optional subjects, he graduated with distinction from University College, Thiruvananthapuram.He has served as a teacher in colleges and universities for as many as 40 years.He also served as executive chairman of Ambalapuzha Kunchan Nambiar Memorial Samithi and has also been associated with several other organisations.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Supreme Court Judge K T Thomas, Suresh Kurup MLA, poets Chemmanom Chacko and Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan were his disciples.
