Kerala cabinet on Wednesday decided to increase the course duration of B.Ed from one to two years, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said. The decision was with a view to equip the students to take up jobs outside Kerala and India, Chandy told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
From the next academic year onwards those who pass B.Ed would be eligible to teach in Higher Secondary levels too as per the norms as set by AICTE, he said. “Such a step is taken so that the B.Ed students will be able to utilize the opportunities that arise outside Kerala as part of implementing the right to education law”, he added.
On other decision, he said 108 posts have been sanctioned for the functioning of Manjeri Medical College which got approval from Central Medical Council.
