An all-party protest march was taken out by the Peoples Action Council to the Cochin International Airport Ltd, demanding justice to the people from seven villages around the airport, on Monday.

The rally, participated by 700 people from the villages of Chengal, Vattathara, Thuravunkara, Piraroor, Mattappuram and Chethikod, started from the Nayathode NSS Karayogam junction.Moving over a 3-km road the rally reached the airport at around 10 am.

Though the it was blocked by the police at the airport junction, the march was almost peaceful. The meeting was inaugurated by CPM District Secretary C M Dinesh Mani. He said that the airport was built on the land of farmers by forcefully taking their land, and now it was one of the profit making companies in Kerala. CIAL is distributing hefty profits to its share holders, but it is not coming forward to consider the farmers and villagers who lost their land. The airport was not able to listen to their problems even after 12 years as it was controlled by a few capitalists. Dinesh Mani added that managing director V J Kurien has to prove his efficiency by settling the issues of the people living around the airport.

Though Congress leaders like P P Thankachan, V M Sudheeran, former MLA P J Joy and DCC president V J Poulose were invited to address the rally none except Anwar Sadat MLA turned up, said M P Sethumadhavan, publicity convener.
