State-owned Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) is planning to set up 10,000 solar roof-top panels in houses across Kerala. The project was being carried out in view of the severe power crisis in the state, a statement said. More than 6,000 persons had already registered for the scheme.

A 12 square metre space is required to set up the panels and more than 100 units of power could be generated with this in a month. Solar panels with 1 KW capacity would be installed atop houses. The entire project could create 10 MW of power in the state. Power generated during the day can be reused by house owners with the help of batteries as per their requirements.
