Rooftop Solar Program launched in Kerala

Kerala has launched a programme to generate over 10 MW of solar power through over 10,000 rooftop solar power systems. The new initiative was launched by Farooq Abdullah, minister for new and renewable energy (MNRE) at Tiruvanthapuram.
This is the biggest programme sanctioned to Kerala so far with an overall expenditure of over Rs.175 crore and budgetary support of over Rs.80 crore from the MNRE, the government stated.Under the programme, solar panels with 1 kW capacity would be installed on the rooftops of 10,000 houses. This is equivalent to setting up a 10 MW power plant.
The aggregated and complete project is expected to generate 1.50 crore units of electricity annually.
